Scale AI
Scale AI specializes in data labeling and human feedback for AI training, and drew attention after Meta’s major investment.
Scale AI is an American company specializing in data labeling that processes and labels the data needed for AI learning. Starting with image tagging for autonomous driving, the business grew by supplying human feedback data used for learning and evaluating large language models. Founder Alexander Wang became famous as the youngest self-made billionaire.
If the three elements of AI competition are model, computing, and data, Scale AI was the company that dominated the data axis. Major AI companies such as OpenAI were customers, and we also participated in AI projects for the U.S. government and military. The industry was turned upside down when Meta invested a large amount of money to secure a stake and recruited a founder into its AI organization.
After this deal, competing AI companies reduced transactions due to concerns about damage to neutrality, and observations about the future of Scale AI itself are mixed.
