Prompt
A prompt is the question, instruction, or context given to an AI model. Better prompts usually lead to better answers.
Prompt is a general term for questions, instructions, and requests given to AI. Just as the results are different when you order from the same chef, “Please give me anything” and “I can’t eat spicy food, so please recommend mild pasta,” the more specific the prompt, the closer AI gets to the answer you want.
As generative AI became popular, everyday language, not code, became the new interface for dealing with computers, and prompts became a key means of doing so. As tricks like assigning roles, providing examples, and specifying output formats become known, writing prompts is becoming a skill in itself.
However, no matter how well you write a prompt, it cannot exceed the limits of the model's capabilities. It is a common misconception that there is a magic spell or one-size-fits-all prompt.
✅ Why it matters
- One well-written prompt can make a big difference in the quality of the output
- It is a point of contact that allows you to deal with AI in everyday language without coding
- The trick of including specific conditions and examples is common to all AI tools.
⚠️ Limits and debates
- Even with the same prompt, results may vary depending on the model and time point
- Prompts alone cannot exceed the capabilities of the model itself
- There is a lot of exaggerated information being spread about the existence of a universal prompt
