KT
KT is a Korean telecommunications company pursuing Korean-focused AI and AI data center businesses in partnership with Microsoft.
KT is Korea's leading telecommunications company encompassing wired and wireless communications, the Internet, and IPTV. As the growth of the telecommunications market has stagnated, we are pursuing a transition to AI, cloud, and data centers as the next-generation growth axes.
The biggest topic is the large-scale strategic partnership with Microsoft. Through a trillion-dollar investment, we decided to develop a Korean-style AI model tailored to Korean culture and regulatory environment and a cloud with enhanced security, which attracted attention as a combination of a global big tech and a domestic telecommunications company. We also have experience developing our own mega model, Mideum.
AI data centers are considered advantageous businesses for telecommunications companies as power and communication networks are key, and KT is attempting to transform into an AI infrastructure company by riding this trend.
✅ Strengths
- It has secured global level AI capabilities through a large-scale partnership with Microsoft
- It has assets advantageous for AI infrastructure business such as data centers and communication networks
- It has a solid customer base for domestic companies such as public and financial institutions.
⚠️ Limits
- The growth of the telecommunications market, which is its main business, continues to stagnate
- As dependence on external technology increases, it may be difficult to accumulate its own AI capabilities
- Due to the nature of the governance structure with frequent CEO changes, there are concerns about the consistency of long-term strategy
