Cerebras
Cerebras is an American semiconductor company that produces ultra-large AI chips the size of a single wafer.
Cerebras is an American company that develops AI semiconductors in a unique way by turning a single wafer into a single chip. Usually, hundreds of chips are cut from a single wafer, but Cerebras holds the title of the world's largest chip by making it into a huge single chip (WSE) without cutting it.
Thanks to this structure, the bottleneck of data transfer between chips is reduced, and the result is that it is much faster than GPU, especially in AI inference (answer generation) speed. Among the many AI chip startups challenging NVIDIA's monopoly, it is a company that attracts attention for its most radical design.
It provides its own chip-based inference service in the form of a cloud, and has also become a hot topic through contracts with large overseas customers, including those in the Middle East. However, the high dependence on certain large customers is pointed out as a weakness.
✅ Strengths
- The technology is clearly differentiated by its unique wafer-scale chip design. It shows performance that can outperform GPUs in AI inference speed. It can be expected to benefit from market demand seeking alternatives to NVIDIA.
⚠️ Limits
- There are criticisms that sales are concentrated in a few large customers
- The scale is small to compete with NVIDIA's ecosystem and capital power
- Because it is a unique design method, securing a developer ecosystem is a challenge.
