Alibaba
China's largest e-commerce and cloud company unveils the open-weight model Qwen series.
Alibaba is a leading Chinese IT company that operates e-commerce platforms such as Taobao and Tmall, as well as China's largest cloud service, Alibaba Cloud. Although it has grown through e-commerce, it is currently using cloud and AI as its next-generation growth engines.
The reason Alibaba is attracting attention in the AI field is because of its open-weight model Qwen series. Q1 is rated as having the world's highest performance among public models that can be downloaded and used for free, and is serving as the basis for developers around the world to create derivative models. It is considered a representative player in the Chinese open source camp in the AI market led by American big tech.
Thanks to its cloud business and AI model, it occupies a similar position to Amazon or Google in China. However, the Chinese government's regulatory environment and the US-China technological conflict act as major variables in business.
✅ Strengths

- Possesses China's largest cloud infrastructure and is equipped with both AI development and service capabilities
- There is a practical stage to apply AI to a wide range of in-house businesses such as e-commerce
⚠️ Limits
- There are restrictions on securing cutting-edge AI chips due to U.S. semiconductor export regulations
- The business environment may be greatly shaken by the regulatory direction of the Chinese government
- There are limits to trust and adoption in Western markets due to the fact that the company is a Chinese company.
